Ibeyi. I've had my eye on these Franco-Cuban twins since September last year. Voices beautiful, warm and tinged with sadness. Daughters of renowned Cuban percussionist, Angá Diaz, and French Venezuelan Artist mum, Maya, it should be no surprise that raw talent sits pretty in their genes.
The man is gone. And mama says there is no life without him.Sounds simple enough, all their sweet, sorrowful lyrics do and that's the beauty of their music. A mix of English, French and Yoruba their voices tussle and wrap over various uncomplicated piano chords and electro tinged drum beats. Perhaps that's what first drew me to them? It's a celebration of cultures and I adore them for doing so.
