It was my bestie Metzti that had first introduced me to Real Lies and their early track 'Dab Housing'. Knowing I'd be a fan of the trio's laid-back London reggae/synth sound and of course she was right, I was instantly hooked.
Then came 'Deeper' and there was nothing I wanted more than a dirty night out with friends. The kind which begins with an excitement that only youth can really provide. The air thick with possibility and potential mischief! I'd listen to this song over and over on the Toronto underground, wondering where my days went and wishing for summer. But the mood was never gloomy, it was a melancholic joy and I knew these boys would be a favourite for a long time to come.
Fast forward and more tracks to fall for, with Naked Ambition and North Circular. More tales of love, blurry tales, red wine stains and whispers of kissing skin.
Not nailing myself to the cross, but what beautiful proof of God she was.
Their latest video 'Seven Sisters' is an ode to those very weekends. Set in North London and filmed at a local pub, it celebrates the friends and their hazy view of love and youth. Quite frankly, these boys create perfect bangers for lazy Sunday morning comedowns.
